Why Did I Get TV?

If I were the next Tyler Perry, that would probably be the name of my first “Andre Henry presents…” stage play, to be later developed into a live-action movie. I went 4 1/2 years or so without owning a TV or having the internet in my home, and it was great. I spent more time reading, creating, keeping up with friends, having people over, and going outside to find things to do! Imagine that…
But this past summer, I decided to bite the bullet and get cable and internet-mostly so I could keep up with what’s happening in music by watching morning music videos, and so I could work for my church at home. Though I enjoy the noise of my television, there is something about the couch potato experience that frustrates me a bit.
When I’m enraptured for hours by “How I Met Your Mother” or some other program, I am essentially watching someone else’s dream. Nothing wrong with that. The problem comes in when I’m spending so much time watching other people’s dreams pass before my eyes at the expense of working on my own. I’m reminded that there are only two types of people in the world: those who create great things, and those those that watch from their couches.
