Life Without Facebook…

So, I took a week off from social networking to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, and realized just how “tethered” I am to my mobile device. It was pitiful, almost breaking a sweat as I resisted the compulsion to see if I was mentioned, messaged, or tagged. It was a few rungs below “torture”, a few rungs above “uncomfortable”.
I did, however, discover this new thing while on hiatus: it’s called “actually talking to actual people”. Because I could not mass distribute my thoughts to the couple of thousand people I’m connected to, I was forced to actually tell SOMEONE what I was thinking—to call, or text, or stop when I see them, and say something. I found that many times, what I was going to share was not that interesting, and not worth a phone call or text. But I also found that just making time to talk to the people I love, beats throwing my thoughts into cyberspace and seeing who “likes” it.
And now that I’ve got that out of system, I’ll get back right back to my electronic pseudo-friendships ;-). Just playing, I’m thinking I’m gonna’ be a bit more balanced from here.
I’ve missed you…
