Andre Sings the Blues…

My friend and musical director Jesse says that everything I sing is blues, but I’ve never really sang THE blues until this year. It happened somewhat accidentally, but I’ve procured a weekly spot on the Sugar Bar’s roster for the month of November singin’ the blues. We did our first set on November 2nd, and it was such an incredible experience. I really tried to dig deep and do my homework to choose songs; and, with the help of my bass player Buster, I think we’ve picked out a stellar set: including some stuff from Muddy Waters to Stevie Wonder to the Beatles to The Black Keys, and of course some original stuff.

Our first night was pretty well attended, but ironically by somewhat legendary performers, professional blues singers, and music industry professionals. George Faison was in the audience, as well as Freddie Jackson, and Ebony JoAnn. A few others also stopped in. I was hoping we would have ONE set to work out the bugs before people started really coming to show, but it just goes to show you that you’ve got to do your best to stay at the top of your game. You never know who is watching you.

We got great feedback, and everyone says they were pleasantly impressed. I can’t wait to tighten up the show before YOU come ;-). I’ll be sure to post video.

About

Beautiful is my favorite word. I'm a singer-songwriter based in New York City. I'm also a Bible teacher and worship director at Glad Tidings in TriBeCa. I often get compared to Stevie Wonder and Prince. These are my thoughts. [http://www.AndreHenryMusic.com]
